Skin Brushing
Have you ever tried skin brushing? I know, I thought it sounded crazy at first, too, but now I don’t go a day without doing it!
Why I Started
My system tends to be a bit sluggish, especially in the winter. With all the health issues I’ve had, especially Lyme disease, my immune system doesn’t always function properly. About three years ago, my massage therapist recommended that I start skin brushing to get my lymphatic system moving, so that my body could properly eliminate toxins and waste.
What I’ve Noticed
Ever since I started, I’ve noticed that my body feel so much more refreshed after I do it, which usually helps my energy levels. Things move through me better and I don’t feel so stagnant. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t notice anything right away. It might take some time for your body to notice a difference or a day or two for the toxins and waste to get eliminated. However, after skin brushing before I take a shower/epsom salt bath for nearly three years, I have definitely noticed a difference.
The Research
The research makes sense. If the lymphatic system isn’t functioning properly or efficiently, toxins and waste build up in the body, sitting in places where they shouldn’t. Not only does this affect bodily processes, but the body also becomes overloaded with toxins, causing more stress and a weakened immune system. Manually directing the waste to areas wheere the body can properly eliminate these toxins assists in the detoxification process. In addition to stimulating your lymphatic system, skin brushing also improves circulation, digestion, energy, stress, and skin health.
This article from Positive Health Wellness does a great job of explaining it! They also explain how to do it if you’re not sure.
Now is a great time to start skin brushing, especially with all these germs floating around in winter. Sometimes our lymphatic systems just need a little boost to keep them going. Give it a try and feel free to let me know what you think!
